The Pickett Fence September 5, 2016

We had a very busy and fun filled first FULL week of school.  I was excited to begin digging into our learning while also focusing attention on our classroom expectations and building our community.

Hopefully you have gotten a chance to begin following some of our social media sites or our blog where you can find great information on what is happening in the classroom.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to send back the forms from BTSN I would appreciate those ASAP.  These forms help me better know your preferences for internet posting options as well as other important information that I need!  Please let me know if you need additional copies.

I hope your students were excited about our first PBL last week where they were designing advertisements for the top 10 state capitals across the country. This was a fun way to incorporate math, reading, research, and some geography skills.  Stay tuned for some other great PBLs in the upcoming weeks.

Email Contact

I have updated all email addresses that I have received up to this point.  If you have not gotten a chance to reply, I would appreciate a quick response.  I will not send home paper copies of parent newsletters, unless needed.  Please let me know!  I would also be happy to add other addresses too.

In a Million Words, Parent Assignment- due 9/2
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for me! It has been absolutely amazing to hear all of the wonderful things you have to say about your children.   The information you have shared has helped me understand how to better help your child.  If you haven’t gotten a chance to complete this for me, feel free to still send it in!

Homework Policy (Repeated)
I did not get a chance to discuss our homework policies at Cure this year at Back to School Night.  Beginning this week, students who do not return to school with their homework completed, the day the assignment is due, will be required to stay after school for homework help to complete the assignment.  Homework help is an after school program from 3:50-4:15 for students who need extra homework help.

Should your child not complete their homework, you will be contacted by me via phone or email during the day to let you know your child is staying after school.

This recent change in homework policy is a building wide policy that was developed in parallel with our VBS plan that was discussed at back to school night.

WSQ and Video
Two video assignments will come home this week.  One will be due Thursday, one Friday.  I will email both out this evening, as well as, post on our various sites. However, students will not get Video links until tomorrow.  Please let me know if you are having any issues with this assignments as we continue through the year.

Requested Items:
We are still looking for empty tubes of paper towel and toilet paper rolls if you have any laying around.

VIP Day
VIP day is this Friday!!  We welcome students to invite VIPs to school to spend some time with us on Friday from 10-10:30.  If you could please let me know how many people will be joining your student on Friday. This will help with classroom chairs and organization! It is recommended that students bring in 1 VIP, however I know that this is not always possible.  We will have a 11:30 dismissal!

Uniforms
Mr. Huber and Mrs. Hammers have asked all students ‘check’ their uniforms.  Skirt and sock lengths will be checked each morning, as well as, belts for our boys and shirts tucked in!  Please be sure your child has the appropriate uniform on as they arrive each day.  Thank you!

Sock it to Poverty
Next week, September 12-15 is crazy sock week. Students may wear socks each day (Except Wed due to Mass).
