The Pickett Fence October 4th

The days seem to be flying by with all of our wonderful PBLs and learning opportunities we are working on!  Last week the fifth grade students took the lead on organizing and sharing information out about the Wila Gill Food Drive to parents and students in the building.  Some of our fifth graders were even featured in the Parent Newsletter last week and ads can been seen across the building designed by us!  This week we are gathering food items while also working on soup recipes, ordering ingredients (enough for 300 people) and staying within the Wila Gill’s budget of $300.  While some of this PBL is fictional, students are able to see real world application to the skills we are working on in all subject areas, reading, writing, math and religion.  Once the drive is completed, fifth grade students will organize and estimate how many canned goods were donated and finally, estimate approximately how much money was raised in all!  This will be an on-going PBL that we are excited to watch play out throughout the weeks to come.

In other subjects, we are continuing to work on other PBLs that help us understand  main idea and details in reading, the sacraments in religion and explorers in Social Studies.  In science we will continue exploring matter and it’s properties with some fun experiments on the books over the next few weeks!  Be sure to be watching for some details and updates on our social media sites to sneak a peak on all of our fun learning over the upcoming weeks.

Mass
Our class will be hosting all school mass THIS Wednesday October 5th and we would like to invite you to join us in our celebration.

Supplies Needed
Thank you for sending in empty water bottles and other recycled materials.  At this time, we have enough supplies to complete our Science experiments!
Conferences
It’s hard to believe it is already time for Fall Conferences!  Be sure to click the link below to sign up for our fall conference!  I am excited to share all our learning and progress with you this year!

Fall Cleaning…
Have you gotten the itch to clean out the toy boxes or get in touch with the newest technology out there? Our classroom would love your old items!
We are looking to add to our lego collection, if you or your family is planning on getting rid of any lego sets or pieces, we would gladly take them off of your hands.
We are also looking for old cell phones, tablets, cameras, video cameras or any smart devices that you would be willing to donate to our classroom learning.  These items would allow students to create, innovate, research, and design digital presentations and projects in the classroom.   While I understand these items could still hold personal information,  I can show you how to delete all information stored on the device prior to donation.  I am also happy to delete and restore to factory settings once the items has been donated.
